- Gestating and lactating mares have an increased need for
energy, high quality proteins and the important bone minerals:
calcium, phosphorus and magnesium. Foals are born without
stock of vitamin A (has to be provided by the mare milk in the
first weeks) so the mare’s need for vitamin A is also increased.
Increased energy and protein level for an optimal milk
production - FEEDING GUIDELINE It is important to feed a diet and quantity
that meets the lifestyle and needs of the horse. . Divide this
daily ration into at least 2-3 meals per day. Always try to feed
a minimum of 1.5% of bodyweight as good quality forage.
Fresh drinking water must be always available.
